This is a one-day course aimed at those who intend to ride quads for fun
only. Riding skills are taught to the same standard as on the two-day course,
but theory and the vehicle mechanics are covered in less detail.
This is the basic LANTRA ATV course, lasting two days, aimed at anybody who
uses a quad for work. The first day and a bit is spent on theory, vehicle
layout and mechanics and riding techniques. The greater part of the second
day is devoted to load carrying, which significantly affects balance and handling,
and trailer loading and handling. While the standard set by LANTRA must clearly
be achieved, this course may be tailored to the experience of the individual.
This enables somebody with previous experience to be taken further along the
road towards the instructorís standard.
Those who wish to become instructors must first complete this course.
For those previously qualified on the ridersí course, this two-day course,
run by an external Technical Standards Verifier, includes more theory and
mechanics, more practice and the chance to instruct. Those applying for this
qualification must first have passed first- aid and methods of instruction
courses.
In order to retain LANTRA instructor status, individuals must commit to annual
up-dating sessions and a quality assurance regime.
